COLBERT

About Peter Colbert

Spending his formative years in Toronto, Peter graduated from Humber College with a diploma in Graphic Design followed by 2 additional years at the Ontario College of Art, winning the George Reid scholarship in 1982 before entering the working world. He was a multiple award-winning designer and illustrator in Vancouver when he returned to Toronto in 1997. About 4 years ago he started his fulltime career as a painter. At first an accomplished watercolorist, he moved toward acrylics and mixed media in time, excited by the larger range of possibilities they offered.
Within a very short time Peter found an enthusiastic international audience for his work. During the past year, winning a prestigious award at the at Exposition d’Art, Montréal in 2007, in the heart of the capital of North American fine art, was one of the definite highlights as were 2 incredible shows at the Toronto Art Expo, but the growth in his art has always been the first thing on his radar.
Peter is known mainly for his Canadian landscape, and figurative paintings, while of late he's seen his work expand into the abstract. You can often recognize his signature attack on his canvases using impressionistic imagery and striking use of color.
His paintings and limited prints can be found in a growing list of galleries, private collections and corporations across North America.
