Prairie Blocks
Artist Statement

I look to the Canadian landscape for inspiration for every piece of artwork that I create. I have harnessed my passion for nature and my background in textile design into the ever-expansive world of abstract painting. My focus in each piece is two-fold; I build texture using Canadian plant material, and I develop an abstract pattern. The essence of texture and pattern can be found in a number of Canadian landscapes, but none will compare to the aerial view of the Canadian Prairies. In a cross-country flight over the prairies in the fall, I glanced out of the window to find one of the most beautiful and natural sights I have ever seen. Laid out like a quilted blanket, were fields and fields of colour and texture, so tightly fit together yet so layered with life, it was then, that I found my Prairie Block series.
